Chair Yoga Classes in Gateshead
Our weekly chair yoga class is free, friendly, and genuinely accessible. You don’t need to be fit, flexible, or have done yoga before. If you can get yourself there, you’re in.
What to expect
Chair yoga takes the key elements of yoga — breathing, gentle movement, stretching, and relaxation — and does them from a chair. You stay seated (or use the chair for support) throughout, so it works for people who can’t easily get down to the floor, or who want something low-impact and manageable.
A typical session lasts around an hour and includes:
- Gentle warm-up and breathing exercises
- Seated yoga movements for flexibility and strength
- A moment of rest and relaxation to finish
- A bit of chat — it’s a community session, after all
Who’s it for?
Anyone who wants to come. We particularly welcome:
- Older adults who want to stay active
- People with limited mobility or chronic pain
- Anyone who’s never tried yoga and wants a low-pressure start
- People who’d benefit from a regular social activity and a reason to get out
You don’t need equipment, special clothing, or experience. Turn up as you are.
When and where
Our class runs weekly in Gateshead at St Andrew’s Church Hall. We meet on Tuesdays at 10.30am to have a giggle and share updates about our week before starting to move.
Is it really free?
Yes. The class is completely free to attend. No catch, no donation box, no awkward moment at the end. We believe everyone should be able to access this kind of activity regardless of their circumstances, so we’ve built the service to make that happen.
Ready to come along?
Just turn up! If you’d prefer to have a chat first to help you feel comfortable before coming along, drop us a message — we’d love to answer any questions.
